This unique take on the Dracula mythos reinvents the dynamic between the vampiric Count Dracula (played by Nicolas Cage) and his human familiar R.M. Renfield (played by Nicholas Hoult). The horror comedy tells the story of Dracula's loyal servant, Renfield, who is forced to do his master's bidding no matter how twisted. After centuries of serving Dracula, Renfield longs for a life beyond the shadow of his master. “Renfield” follows Renfield as he tries to break free from Dracula's control while facing gruesome and terrifying challenges along the way – showing the lengths to which a loyal servant will go to break free from the shadow of his master.
The story, which is based on a script written by Kirkman himself, blends genres while honoring the legacy of vampire cinema – featuring thrilling action-packed sequences while simultaneously delivering the gruesome aspects that one would expect from a horror movie. Renfield is poised to be the most unique interpretation of the Dracula mythos in recent memory while honoring the legacy of vampire cinema, and is set to bring viewers on a thrilling ride.
Directed by Emmy winner Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The LEGO Batman Movie), Renfield is an adaptation from a screen story by creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible Robert Kirkman and a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Ghosted series, Rick & Morty series).
The film stars Golden Globe winner Awkwafina (The Farewell, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings), Emmy winner and Oscar® nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Saddam, House of Sand and Fog), Ben Schwartz (Sonic, The Afterparty), Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Focus) and Brandon Scott Jones (Ghosts, The Other Two).
Renfield is a Skybound/Giant Wildcat production, produced by Chris McKay, Samantha Nisenboim (co-producer, The Tomorrow War), Bryan Furst (Daybreakers), Sean Furst (Daybreakers), Robert Kirkman and David Alpert p.g.a. (The Walking Dead). The executive producer is Todd Lewis (unit production manager, Jason Bourne).
