Robert Rodriguez is ready to rewrite the rules again with you as his partner

Robert Rodriguez has never lived by Hollywood conventions.

When he dropped out of film school, he didn’t wait for a studio to greenlight his first movie. He made El Mariachi himself for $7,000 and set a Guinness World Record for the lowest-budgeted film ever to gross more than $1 million.

When everyone believed all great kids movies had to be animated, Rodriguez broke the rules and developed a live action concept where children were the heroes, turning Spy Kids into a $550M franchise.

Rodriguez has never hesitated to give opportunities to emerging talent, providing actors like George Clooney (From Dusk Till Dawn), Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Danny Trejo (Machete), and Lady Gaga (Machete Returns) their first major film roles.

When Hollywood told him to make movies on their studio lots, Robert built his own Troublemaker Studios in his hometown of Austin, Texas, using it to film groundbreaking movies like Sin City and Alita: Battle Angel.

Now, he’s ready to rewrite the rules of independent action filmmaking again, becoming the first major director to invite fans to become partners and share in the profits from his next set of films.

The Robert Rodriguez Experience

While known as a “maverick” by Hollywood standards, Rodriguez’s innovative style of filmmaking has attracted an incredible array of talent. In fact, actors call it “The Robert Rodriguez Experience” for his efficient and talent-friendly way of creating films.

He’s built relationships with some of the world’s most famous actors, including Robert De Niro (Machete), Ben Affleck (Hypnotic), and Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas (Desperado; Once Upon a Time in Mexico), and Bruce Willis (Sin City).

Robert has also partnered with some of the world’s greatest filmmakers. Alongside close friend Quentin Tarantino, Robert co-wrote From Dusk Till Dawn and co-directed Grindhouse. He also directed Alita: Battle Angel, collaborating with James Cameron, who co-wrote the film.

In total, his films have amassed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide box office, with nearly half the revenue from international markets, drawing on distribution relationships with Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros., and Netflix, to name a few.

He’s done it all while staying true to the independent spirit that’s marked his work.

The Franchise Maker: The Idea Is Always Bigger Than Just One Movie

It’s a remarkable track record for any filmmaker: more than half of Rodriguez’s theatrical releases have turned into franchises.

The secret to his success is that he focuses his concept development on ideas where the characters, action, and storyline can lead to multiple films.

Those iconic franchises include:

Spy Kids, the world’s most successful live-action kids franchise, with more than $500 million in box office revenue.

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D universe, which spawned We Can Be Heroes, which ranks #9 on the all-time list of the most popular movies on Netflix.

His original Mexico trilogy (El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico), which launched his career while setting records.

Finally, there’s Alita: Battle Angel. The first film grossed more than $400 million and the second is currently in development.

You can now invest in Robert’s latest project, Brass Knuckle Films, and help create the next great action franchises, starting today only on Republic.

As part of Robert’s new project, every investor can pitch him one film idea.

Robert will review the submissions and select 10 finalists. As a bonus, all of those finalists will be invited to pitch to him live.

Robert will then select one winner and produce — and maybe even direct! – that film as part of the slate.

Not only will the winner be a co-creator, but they’ll also receive an individual credit on the film.

So what are you waiting for?

“I’m an independent filmmaker.  This is a chance I couldn’t pass up!” - David D.

“Robert is the last of a dying breed; he still believes in what Hollywood should be: great minds coming up with great ideas to create art! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I couldn’t let pass by!” - Benjamin D.

“It's not just a dream to have the chance to pitch to a master filmmaker like Robert—it’s an incredible opportunity to be part of this amazing project.” - Lucas R.

“The opportunity to pitch is fantastic, but even more rewarding is the chance to be part of this incredible journey from start to finish.” - Gabriel B.

The Innovation Never Stops

Since the start of his career, Robert Rodriguez has continually earned a reputation as a pioneering independent filmmaker.

He left film school to make El Mariachi, which he famously wrote, filmed, directed, edited, and produced all on his own. The film became the subject of his book, Rebel Without a Crew: Or How a 23-Year-Old Filmmaker With $7,000 Became a Hollywood Player. It remains an independent filmmaker’s bible and mandatory reading in film schools today.

That spirit of innovation has carried on throughout his career. His early adoption of technology and innovative techniques allowed him to become one of the first filmmakers to:

  • Digitally edit a movie (Desperado)

  • Shoot exclusively in high definition digital video (Once Upon a Time in Mexico)

  • Film an entire major motion picture on green screen (Sin City)

  • Digitally project a film in theaters (Spy Kids 2)

  • Create the first ever 3D film by a major filmmaker (Spy Kids 3)

Now, Rodriguez is the first major director to partner with fans to develop and finance projects.

Troublemaker Studios - Robert’s Secret Weapon

The Rodriguez legend includes the ability to make hard-hitting action movies with high production value at a price that Hollywood can’t match.

His secret? Troublemaker Studios. Founded following the success of El Mariachi and Desperado, the 20-acre production facility in the burgeoning film capital of Austin, Texas boasts soundstages, a full green screen setup, full sets, sound studio, a prop workshop, a costume department, and everything needed for the development, production, and post-production of films.

At Troublemaker, Sin City became the first movie to be filmed solely on green screen, and Alita: Battle Angel successfully blended animation with live characters.

During production, you’ll find Robert at Troublemaker working with experienced camera, lighting, and production crews, many of whom have worked with him for close to 25 years. That crew includes his sons Racer and Rebel, who help write scripts and score films.

Robert is still the same hands-on filmmaker who created El Mariachi. If you’re ever on set in Austin, you might find him behind the camera, adjusting lights, mixing sound, or handling post-production in addition to his director role.

Pitch Your Film Idea to Robert

Every investor in Brass Knuckle Films gets the best perk of all-the opportunity to pitch him your movie idea. Robert will personally select the winner and develop the concept as part of his new slate of action films. Not only will you be an investor and partner in the company, you’ll get your name in the credits as a co-creator alongside Robert.

This is a rare opportunity typically reserved for film insiders and studios. For the first time, retail investors and movie fans can claim a true stake in what could become the next great action franchise.

Find out how you can collaborate with Robert Rodriguez and take part in the future of filmmaking—earn a credit, visit the set, and even appear on camera in his newest project, available exclusively through Republic.
