The breakout popularity of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown is starting to inspire other developers, and one is taki...
Game
Marauder is a unique multiplayer experience where you play as a space pirate, taking part in epic spaceship battles to tight first-person corridor shooting. Explore an industrialized deep space, raid colonies, space stations and board other players' ships, taking their gear by force and returning to your base before your oxygen runs out.
The game is being developed for release Q1, 2022 onto Steam, the biggest digital PC games platform (with over 47million daily active users). Marauder will provide a unique and immersive space pirate gunplay experience, combined with cutting edge next-generation graphics.
Gameplay
Marauder's gameplay falls under it's 3 main pillars: Multiplayer, Immersion and Alternate reality science fiction.
Multiplayer is crucial to the competitive nature of the game's core mechanics, players will take and lose in-game items known as "loot" from other players. However we are also building the game to be enjoyed "solo" or as a team to ensure the game can be enjoyed with friends or without.
Immersion gives the game it's unique realistic first-person presentation including tactical movement and combat. Even the inventory system with it's economy based values gives a deeper and more engaging experience than your standard FPS release can provide.
Science fiction
Our alternate reality setting provides the visceral space gameplay. Players explore an industrialized deep space set around the 1990s where Earth has expanded its industry to the point where law and order is out of reach, becoming the new wild west.
“Craft, sell and buy gear at your home base, construct huge frigates and launch into space with your friends, dock/raid deep space colonies for the spoils and even set an ambush for other player pirates for their riches ”
Players can even take on different roles in the spacecraft such as a pilot or gunner. Launch attacks on other battleships and repel boarders attempting to siege them. All that stands between the player and certain death are a few inches of metal of their trusty ship.
Distribution
Steam created by Valve, is the largest digital PC games platform. It has over 47million daily active users, and over 1 billion registered user accounts. In April of this year, it set a new record having over 23.5million concurrent users and shows no signs of slowing down. It has worldwide digital distribution and no physical overheads.
With a good lead-up time to launching on steam, we will utilise our live playable alpha build to consistently test and develop Marauder. Benefiting from playthroughs of our currently 1,500+ early adopters, helping to build a stable and engaging game, putting it in the strongest possible position for its steam launch in Q1, 2022.
Technology
Marauder is being developed from the ground up using the Unreal Engine 4, the game engine used by Epic Games to create Fortnite. It has also been used by AAA developers to create other games such as: Bioshock, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Dauntless etc.
We specialise in developing games in the Unreal Engine and have been doing so for over 9 years on a multitude of projects. New technologies developed for Fortnite are constantly being integrated into the Unreal Engine allowing us to directly benefit from and create games at the graphical and technological forefront of the games market.
Competition
Marauder aims to be at the peak of an emerging trend that has a large viable audience : the persistent competitive multiplayer genre. This can be seen by looking at the limited number of similar genre titles; Hunt: Showdown (Crytek), Vigor (Bohemia Interactive) and Escape from Tarkov (Battlestate games).Of these games only Hunt: Showdown is sold on steam (released Q1 2018) and has an estimated 1,000,000 units sold.
This shows the untapped potential of a large active user base using the Steam platform that have no new similar titles to purchase. Combining this with Marauder's science fiction theme, which is a popular genre in itself (with over 700million copies sold), there is a strong potential for reaching new customers not yet accessed by the currently available titles.
We also plan to be competitive on price, currently other titles in this genre range from 40 USD (Hunt : Showdown) to 60 USD (Escape from Tarkov). Marauder’s retail price will be set at 35 USD, a price point that provides a comfortable return after Steam’s distribution fee.
Development
Marauder is currently in alpha development and utilising the Fig.co Open Access program. We have over 1,500 early adopters testing the game at this early stage, helping to ensure a stable and engaging product.
Open development has proven invaluable in building a multiplayer game as most titles wouldn’t experience public/crucial feedback until the end phase of their development. If you wish to know more about our open development process and details on the game's current state please refer to our FIG page.
Investment
Successful investment will enable us to create returns of up to $12,000,000 through traditional consistent game development, as well as by utilising modern digital marketing techniques (Twitch and Youtube). Additional opportunities are available through post-launch support including full translations for a worldwide consumer base, such as the growing mature gaming markets in Brazil.
Pre-production has been completed and 5 milestones fulfilled. We are now planning to create copious amounts of content over the next 12 months. Raised funds will ensure the game will provide long playtimes and infinite replay-ability for all players, meeting the demands of video game influencers and hardcore gamers alike with a large, deep, competitive game to sink their teeth into.
We will also dedicate funds for post-launch events. These will not only provide new content for existing customers but also create marketing buzz to attract additional customers that weren't acquired during launch week.
