A portfolio of new films in a variety of genres

Investing in a development "slate" diversifies your risk across multiple films, similar to how a venture capital fund spreads investments across various startups. A VC firm invests in a number of companies, then returns money to investors based on the overall performance of the fund. In this case, rather than investing in a number of companies, we are investing in a number of films.

Be the first money in

When you invest at the development stage, you’re entering the filmmaking process at the ground level. Your investment will finance the development process, which is needed to get the slate’s films ready for production.

A mix of fresh stories and proven IP

Some projects in the portfolio will be based on IP that we'll acquire specifically for this development slate, while others will be based on IP we already own (ie. from the Pressman catalog). By balancing potentially high-reward new IP ventures with proven, established Pressman properties, we aim to produce a diverse group of motion pictures across a range of genres that will secure wide audience reach will mitigating investors' risk.  

Execution Strategy

The amount of funds we raise will shape our execution strategy. For instance, with our target of $1.5M, we intend to develop six projects across various genres (Thriller, Comedy, Horror, Drama, Action), spending $50K to $300K on development for each.

If we raise $5M, we could develop ten (or more) projects, and may invest over $1M developing a major franchise property. For example, Warner Brothers spent $2M acquiring the first four Harry Potter books before script development, a highly successful investment. Raising capital allows us to compete for highly sought after IP like bestselling books, comics, and video games. 

When we make money, you make money

You're investing in a portfolio of films (a slate) at the development stage. And then we get to work. Your funds will be used to acquire IP, write scripts, secure directors and cast, develop the creative vision, and ultimately prepare the project to secure financing for the second phase: production. 

Your returns will come from the success of any and all films in this portfolio.

When a film from the slate enters production investor revenues start flowing from the following three streams:

When a film from the slate enters production, investors recoup the portion of their investment tied to that film plus a 20% premium.

After development has been completed and a project enters the production phase (i.e. the cameras start rolling), Republic investors start recouping their money from the film’s production budget.

For example, we invested $100,000 on development of “Film 1,” Republic investors would get back $120,000 within 3 months of the production start of “Film 1”.

Investors receive 15% of Pressman Films producer fee. and  15% of any rights fee . from every successfully produced film in the slate.

Pressman Film gets a fee for producing services rendered. We may also receive a rights fee, which is essentially a license fee for the IP on which the film is based.

Producer fee. The amount of the producer’s fee varies but is generally in the range of 2.5% to 5% of a total production budget. For example, if the production budget of “Film 1” is $10,000,000, Pressman’s producing fee might be $500,000 (5% of $10M), of which Republic investors would get $75,000 (15% of $500k).

Rights fee. If Pressman is eligible to receive a rights fee, it is typically 2.5% of a total production budget. Following the “Film 1” example, the rights fee for that project might be $250,000 (2.5% of $10M), of which Republic investors would get $37,500 (15% of $250k).

Investors get 100% of Pressman's net profit share in all films from this slate until investors have made their money back plus 8% compounded interest.

This means Pressman only takes money from these film’s net profits AFTER you are paid back in full for your entire investment plus your preferred return¹. Once you get that money back, you will start getting 25% of Pressmans net profits for these films in perpetuity .

Net Profits. Our film is now in theaters! If “Film 1” performs well at the box office and recoups all the costs of its production and distribution, it will begin generating additional revenues for Pressman from ticket sales, streaming, etc. These revenues are referred to as ‘net profits,' and investors will share in these earnings in perpetuity. Net profits are determined in various ways depending on how exactly a film is distributed, e.g. theatrical release vs. streamer release.

At first, Republic investors will get 100% of Pressman’s Net Profits. Once investors have made back their principal with a preferred return (defined below), a Net Profits split kicks in where Pressman keeps 75% and gives 25% to Republic investors in perpetuity.

Pressman Films commits to pay back your investment plus 8% compounded annual interest before taking any net profits.

That is, if you invested $1,000 and you waited two years to get this money back, you would get 100% of Pressman Films net profits for the films in this portfolio until you receive $1,166.40 (i.e.  $1,000 * 1.08 * 1.08)

Fine print

When returns are generated, payment to investors will occur on a quarterly basis.

All investors receive equal exposure to all projects in this portfolio proportionate to each investor’s share of the total investment pool.

Each investor will receive their share of revenues in proportion to their individual investment in this portfolio.
