Problem

Hearing loss solutions are expensive and have a negative social stigma

Hearing aids cost between $2,000 and $8,000 per pair in the United States are rarely covered by insurance premiums. They also require a visit to a specialist, ongoing maintenance costs, and are often perceived as a disability.

Due to this, the average person waits over nine years before seeking professional help and less than 15% of people who could benefit from a hearing aid actually own one.

In many developing nations, it is extremely difficult to access hearing health professionals, quality care, adequate and affordable solutions.

Hearing loss is the third most common chronic condition in the world. And this problem is only being exacerbated by the growth of personal devices and our noisy environments. According to the World Health Organization, individuals with disabling hearing loss will accelerate and double to more than 900 million people by 2050.

Untreated hearing loss has also been associated with secondary physical and mental health issues that include isolation, increased risk of  falling, developing depression, and dementia.

Solution

Personalized sound therapies designed to maintain and strengthen your hearing

Using data- and science- backed Threshold Sound Conditioning technology, AudioCardio users assess their hearing to generate personalized barely audible sound therapies to maintain and strengthen their hearing.

AudioCardio’s sound therapies don’t require active engagement. They work passively in the background while you do other activities like listening to music, exercising, working at your desk and falling asleep.

Product

AudioCardio provides a comprehensive recovery program

Download the app from the Apple App or Google Play Stores. AudioCardio will then guide users through an initial assessment to measure baseline levels, generate personalized sound therapies and track progress as you use the app.

Traction

Backed by data and science

AudioCardio’s technology has been clinically proven in a double-blind randomized controlled trial conducted with Stanford University and Palo Alto Medical Foundation. 78% of the participants had more than a 10 decibel change in their hearing for the frequencies that were targeted.

  • 24,000+ users and 2,700+ customers

  • 135,000+ sound therapy sessions and 62,000+ hearing assessments

  • Grew web traffic by 35x in 12 months

  • 46.1% ROI on performance marketing

  • Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation Award 2020

  • Completed Participation in Grid110 and Startup Boost accelerators

  • Participating in the Consortium for Technology & Innovation in Pediatrics, supported by Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, University of Southern California and a consortium of pediatric and research focused organizations (Seattle Children's Hospital, Oregon Health and Science University, UCLA, UC Berkeley, The Lundquist Institute, Larta Institute and more.)

Competition

AudioCardio is a unique approach to hearing wellness

AudioCardio was created to fill the gap left by lack of innovation, expensive hearing aids, surgery, and inadequate hearing solutions. Unlike traditional solutions in the market, AudioCardio is affordable, accessible, and removes the negative social stigma to help you communicate better.

Vision and strategy

First line of hearing defense and complementary solution for hearing aids

Our vision is to improve the quality of life for the millions of people suffering from hearing loss and the secondary physical and mental health issues associated with untreated hearing loss. With your investment, AudioCardio will expand our brand recognition, partner with hospitals, medical centers, organizations and communities within our target demographics while establishing ourselves as the leading name in hearing health and wellness.

Funding

Raising to support a fully scaled marketing campaign

AudioCardio was bootstrapped during the first two years of operation and has since raised $350,000 in SAFE agreements. This previous investment allowed us to find early product market fit through 450+ customer discussion and interviews. We receive non-dilutive funding from organizations such as CTIP, granted through the support of the FDA.

Funds from our Republic raise will support a fully scaled marketing campaign, key hires, platform development and bringing on new partnerships, key industries and organizations across the United States and other key regions. This first round of crowdfunding will also allow us to pursue additional non-dilutive funding from government and non-profit organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Hearing Loss Association of America and more...

Founders

Removing barriers to care and erasing the stigma around hearing loss

We started AudioCardio with the mission to develop and provide an easily accessible and affordable solution for people with hearing difficulties.

In the summer of 2016, Chris wanted to take his grandfather on one last trip where he would be physically able to walk, fish and get around all on his own. During this trip, Chris realized that his grandfather’s memory loss was much more than simple forgetfulness. He was showing serious signs of accelerating cognitive decline.

Cofounder Chris Ellis (right) and his grandfather

Immediately after this trip, Chris started educating himself on cognitive decline, dementia and Alzheimer’s. During this self education, he came across a Johns Hopkins study that showed an association between untreated hearing loss and dementia, along with other studies associating isolation and depression.

Although his grandfather knew he had hearing loss and tinnitus, he refused to purchase hearing aids. The lack of convenient access to a specialist, cost of hearing aids, and negative social stigma all contributed to his distaste for the options on the market.

Serendipitously, Chris met Sam Kwak, a scientist and inventor from South Korea, around the same time this was all happening. Sam was working on a technology in hopes of helping people with hearing difficulties. After many conversations and meetings, the two decided to cofound AudioCardio in hopes of providing an easily accessible and affordable solution.

I invested in the company bc I believe in the technology and the brand. Addressing challenges facing older populations especially when it comes to the links of hearing loss and dementia. This is not only helping people right now but future generations of people also.

My grandfather is currently suffering from hearing loss leading to dementia. His hearing aids just don't quite correct his hearing well enough. I am hopeful that other technologies such as AudioCardio can be effective for future generations of people struggling with hearing loss.

I began wearing hearing aids before retirement. Even with the employer-related discount, they cost more than any car I ever purchased. As a Kindness Advocate, I support your mission. You are helping to create a culture of kindness. Thank you.
