Last week, Soar Robotics went live on Technori’s Startup Showcase on Chicago’s WGN Radio. Since 2010, Technori has grown into Chicago’s leading startup platform with hundreds of alumni companies that have raised more than a billion dollars in venture capital. We started with an elevator pitch followed by a discussion with host Scott Kitun on the business and why we started it. We were able to reach a group of startup-focused audience of more than 20,000 people.We have been serving our clients through our cloud interface. The interface enables us to manage organizations, users, robots, and lets our clients monitor their job sites, visualize, and analyze the collected data. We are revising our cloud interface front-end design to better address our clients’ requests regarding usability and user experience. Also, we are adopting Google’s Material design guidelines for a better user experience and familiarizing our newest clients with our UI, faster and easier. I have a website that discusses 5G. It is aimed at cell phones but also covers the many other applications of this technology. I would like to reference Soar Robotics regarding the ways you are utilizing or are planning to utilize 5G. Can you give me some ideas that I can share? This will obviously help give Soar Robotics a bit more visibility as well. I realize there may be some elements you will not wish to share but anything you can share will be helpful.

@jack-stephens-1 Hello Jack, thank you for your interest and support! This is very exciting and would love to hear more about your website. We believe that the future of drones is in connectivity and the cloud. Currently, all of our drones are connected to the cloud either through 4G or through their ground base which is connected to the internet through a cabled connection. We are working to integrate coming 5G modules on our Cloud-connected Robotics Intelligence Board, which is a board that connects any aerial vehicle to the cloud or another aerial vehicle. We have many applications that mostly need image or video data to be processed optionally coupled with frame IMU and/or gimbal IMU data if present. CCRI board receives these kinds of data from the sensors and cameras of the aerial vehicle and sends them to the cloud. Depending on the application the data is processed on the cloud and is sent back to the CCRI board as high-level mission commands or low-level control commands. For example, in what we call closed loop mapping for construction, solar fields and agriculture we basically do a standard mapping as the photos of the field come (RGB, thermal and multispectral respective to the industries). This both speeds up the mapping process as well as detecting any inefficiencies with the flight plan/path. Early detection of an inefficient flight plan gives us the ability to terminate the flight and start over which saves time and battery as well as increasing the quality of the data collected. Another application is scene understanding for emergency response where the scene data, which is a constant video stream with a very high resolution and FPS transmitted to the cloud and must be processed instantly. Swarm management is another application that we are working on for both indoors and outdoors.

Another application we are still working on is the soft real-time control of an aerial vehicle using an external computational unit or cloud, where the ping should be definitely under 20 ms. Improved bandwidth and latency will open up a huge range of possibilities for us, as well as the ability to use software defined networks to create custom network architectures under 5G.
