For every micro-cosmic success that I may have achieved, none of it would have been possible had I tried to do all of it ...
Problem
It's impossible to stay on top of your relationships
Even with LinkedIn, Facebook, and your address book, there’s no unified place for relationships. Finding where you left off involves checking 5 different tools.
Keeping-in-touch is hard
If you've thought 'I can't believe it's already been five years?,' you know it's easy to lose track. With a busy schedule, things slip through. Before you know it, you’ve forgotten to stay in touch with classmates, coworkers, and friends.
You miss opportunities in your network
When you need to ask for advice, hire, or fundraise, you'll need to rely on your network. Unless you 'have a system,' you'll forget the right people who can help.
Staying in touch = more opportunities
Being thoughtful = better opportunities
Solution
One place for everything
Dex is an integrated, modern Rolodex designed to be simple and powerful. Instead of focusing on sales teams, we're building for ambitious individuals who realize that their network is a source of personal fulfillment and professional value.
We're focused on building a product that's simpler than a traditional CRM like Salesforce and far more powerful than a spreadsheet. By empowering individuals to create a single source of truth from their relationships, we help users make the most of their network.
For our customers, we've built the personal CRM that they've spent years searching for.
Product
Dex is a radically
different CRM
Because Dex is built for individuals. We deliver a streamlined, focused product. When compared to existing solutions, Dex delivers a more integrated and automated experience. By taking the busy work out of relationships, Dex is also easier to stick with.

Traction
From $0 to $11K in monthly revenue in 2021
Monthly Revenue (USD) from Jan 2021 - Nov 2021
Dex's early traction shows a market with a clear willingness to pay. Since launching paywalls in Jan 2021, our monthly revenues have steadily increased.
The data show we're building a product that people actually want. More importantly, our users stick with us — our current customer LTV as of Jan 2022 is $231. With 100,000+ manually logged notes over 7.5M contacts in Dex, we're just getting started.
Customers
We've built a product that people can't live without
Our users come from around the world and have found Dex to be the best solution for managing their relationships. From MBA students to ambitious professionals, our customers all realize relationships are worth the investment:
—
Q: How would you feel if you could no longer use Dex?
—
Users finally end their search
for the right personal CRM with Dex
—
Users not only love us,
they tell people about Dex
—
...and we're growing through word-of-mouth
Business model
Dex is starting with a freemium business model
First hard paywalls were launched in Jan 2021
Dex is offered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) product with simple pricing. Users signup for free and upgrade online or by purchasing an in-app subscription.
Our free tier allows users to build trust with the product before subscribing. Premium users unlock more functionality, including LinkedIn sync, and are able to use Dex without usage limits.
To date, we've done little paid acquisition for Dex; we've relied on organic word-of-mouth. With a LTV of $214, we're excited to further develop our paid acquisition channels and explore partnership opportunities in the next year.
Market
2023 is the right time for a breakout personal CRM
In 2022, there are more than 774M people on LinkedIn. Even more use their phone address book. Our goal is to be as ubiquitous — even replace — the contacts app on your phone. With this individual audience as a starting point, we're starting by targeting a $4.8B market:
Why now?
There could not be a better time for a breakout personal CRM:
- 'Productivity' as a category with growing demand & willingness to pay, and successful prosumer companies (Calendly, Notion, Superhuman, etc).
- Broader networks that are more digital, and professionally/personally entwined
- Channel Fragmentation causing relationships context to be scattered -- communications happen across many channels.
Competition
A whole new world of CRM
Dex is a modern way to manage your relationships that isn't traditional CRM. We're not focused on pipeline or selling to sales teams. Instead, we're focused on delivering a frictionless, rewarding experience. A few key differences:
The problem we're solving isn't new for our users. Many of our users have already tried tools that aren't built for the task.
When compared to other companies in the space, Dex is unique in our focus on building an integrated, automated tool targeted for individuals.
Vision and strategy
Dex becomes the operating system for professional relationships
We've already built a product useful for those who realize the importance of their network. Our goal is to become as ubiquitous as the contacts app on your phone. To do so, we'll introduce network effects and viral growth in our product itself.
In 2030, we envision a world where:
- Signing up for Dex is standard practice among MBAs & professionals.
- Dex is the CRM of choice for solopreneurs and small teams. We become the obvious choice for relationships that don't belong in a funnel.
- Dex replaces the contacts app for ambitious professionals.
How we'll get there
Funding
Backed by Y Combinator, Amino, and Tapas Capital
All of our investors believe the status quo of relationship management isn't working.
We couldn't have built Dex without the participation and feedback of our early users. Many of our early users have already invested in the product, and we're excited to share the opportunity of investing with more of our supporters.
Funds raised will be used to continue investing in our product, build long-requested features like iMessage / WhatsApp integrations, and supercharge growth.
Founders
A technical team
up for the challenge
As founder and CEO of Dex, Kevin Sun started Dex to solve his own problem. Having tried Notion, Airtable, and other solutions, he noticed how manual and tedious it was to manage relationships across platforms. With a background in software engineering and data visualization, he set off to build a solution that would bring everything together.
The Dex team brings shared experience quickly shipping products. We're no stranger to overcoming technical challenges, and we're proud of what we've accomplished with the 20+ platforms we support. We share a common goal: to build the integrated, delightfully easy solution our users have come to expect.
